Explore Our Camp Experience

The GPYMCA camp philosophy is built on fostering personal growth, building character, and nurturing potential through meaningful outdoor experiences, guided by our core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. We provide a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment where campers can try new things, make friends, and connect with nature.

Our camps encourage kids to step outside their comfort zones, build confidence, and discover new skills in sports, arts, and outdoor adventures. Living and playing together helps campers develop empathy, cooperation, and a strong sense of belonging. Time spent outdoors inspires a love for nature, teaches environmental responsibility, and offers a welcome break from screens.

We understand that circumstances may arise that require families to adjust their plans for participation in our YMCA Summer Day Camp. Campers should bring a backpack to and from camp each day. In the backpack should be:

  • Swim suit and towel (we recommend campers wear their bathing suit to camp under their clothes to reduce the number of times campers need to change through out the day)
  • Refillable water bottle
  • Sunscreen SPF 15 or higher
  • Bag lunch: We hope that you will partner with us in promoting healthy lifestyles by packing a nutritious lunch for your child. All campers should bring a non-perishable lunch and a beverage to camp daily unless otherwise notified. Please do not include candy or soft drinks. Lunches will not be refrigerated; therefore, we ask that you send lunches that do not contain food items that will spoil if not kept cold. Please do not provide your camper with food that will need heating, refrigerating or microwaving as the camp sites are not equipped to do this. Camp staff is not responsible for food preparation or pre-heating meals. Please mark all lunches with the camper’s first and last name. Please leave all personal items such as toys and electronics at home.

We also strongly suggest that you label all of your child’s belongings with his or her first and last name.

We spend most, if not all, of our day outdoors and we plan each day of camp to be full of activity. Comfortable clothing and shoes made for running and climbing are a must. No flip-flops or sandals except at our pools and waterfronts. Sometimes fun can be messy, so please wear clothing that can get dirty. A cap or hat for sun protection is advisable.

The safety of the children in our program is our first priority. All childcare staff receives multiple training opportunities and are First Aid, CPR and AED certified. No child, regardless of circumstances, will be allowed to leave the care of the YMCA staff with an unauthorized person. Children will only be released to the people listed on the registration forms. Adults authorized to pick up a child must be at least 18 years old and will be required to show a valid photo ID.

A typical day of summer camp will include a morning group meeting, lunch, swimming and other activities. Activities may include archery, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), arts & crafts, and large group activities. Our goal is to engage each child in age appropriate activities where they can learn, grow and have fun!

YMCA Day Camp counselors are mature, enthusiastic and diverse. Most are college students studying education, psychology and social work. They are carefully selected for those qualities of leadership, personal values and caring that enable them to relate to and motivate young people. The counselor staff is closely supervised by leadership staff of knowledgeable and dedicated YMCA professionals.

All medications (both prescription and non-prescription) are administered by camp leadership and require a Medication Release Form be included in your child’s file. A Medication Release Form is also needed for children requiring an epi-pen or inhaler.

Yes! The GPYMCA welcomes campers of all abilities and does not discriminate on the basis of disability. We are committed to ensuring full and equal access to our programs, facilities, and services. When needed, we will make reasonable modifications to policies, practices, or procedures so campers can fully participate, unless doing so would fundamentally change the nature of the program.

If you have questions about accommodations or your child’s specific needs, please contact your branch before the start of camp so we can work together to plan for a safe and successful experience.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

The Y strives to make programs available to all children and confidential assistance may be provided to the extent possible to cover a portion of your child’s program fees.

Once you have submitted the Financial Assistance application a Y staff person will follow up with you within one week to determine the amount of assistance that is available to you. To expedite this process please include your income verification documents with your application.
