As winter gives way to spring, we begin looking ahead to one of the most meaningful mornings of the year at GPYMCA: Y Heroes!
On Tuesday, May 12, we will gather at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick for our 2026 Y Heroes Celebration. For those who may be newer to our community, Y Heroes is our annual celebration and signature fundraiser, recognizing the people and partners whose generosity, leadership, and service help strengthen the Y and the communities we serve.
I am proud to share this year's honorees:
What I love about this group is that, together, they reflect the many ways the Y's mission comes to life. Sometimes that looks like a committed community partner. Sometimes it looks like quiet generosity, family engagement, decades of service, or leadership that helps a branch grow stronger from within. Sometimes it looks like mentorship that opens doors and changes lives.
That spirit is exactly what Y Heroes celebrates and what it helps sustain. As our signature annual fundraiser, the event helps support the programs and services that make the Y a place of connection, opportunity, and belonging for children, families, older adults, and neighbors across our community. We hope you will join us for this special morning. To purchase tickets or make a contribution, please visit our website.
Warmly,
Summer may still feel a ways off, but camp season will be here before we know it. Registration for summer day camp and overnight camp is open, and spots are already filling across our programs. From swim time and outdoor play to new skills and new friendships, camp gives kids the kind of summer they carry with them long after it ends. Now is a great time to make your plans and save your child’s place.
Save the date for one of GPYMCA' most meaningful days of the year! Y Heroes 2026 takes place Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 8:00 AM at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick. We'll celebrate the individuals and organizations strengthening our community while raising critical support for our mission. Honorees and details coming soon.
Kent County Y's gymnasium renovation campaign didn't just meet its goal. It nearly doubled it. Thanks to strong support from our community, the campaign raised $27,824 against a $15,000 goal, helping fund a renovated floor, brand new wall padding, and repaired basketball hoops for one of the branch's busiest shared spaces. Thank you to everyone who helped make it possible.
The Newman Y's Shooting Stars School of Dance was recently honored with the OneBeat APEX Studio Award at the Beyond The Stars Regional Dance Competition in Bellingham. What made the recognition especially meaningful was that it reflected not only the group's talent and stage presence, but also the kindness, respect, and sportsmanship they showed throughout the weekend. We couldn't be prouder of how they represented the Y.
