Newman YMCA’s Shooting Stars School of Dance Takes Home Numerous Winnings at First Competition of the Season

Y Dance Team Wins Overall at Latest Competition

The Newman YMCA’s Shooting Stars School of Dance kicked off the New Year competing in the Diva Regional Dance Competition in Mansfield Massachusetts January 4 and 5, taking home several winnings.

Senior soloists, Sydney Mello and Samantha Butler, placed in the Top 10 among 250 dancers receiving “Ultimate Sapphire” awards and securing the 5th and 10th best scoring overall soloist spots against many fierce competitors.

Junior soloist, Delainey Pari, was also able to secure a spot in the Top 10 for her category. Junior duos placed in the Top 10 overall duos and trios securing the 9th overall spot, with senior duo placing first overall in the senior duo category.

10th-year student and current senior, Sydney Mello, was awarded the “Best Technique” special award for her Jazz dance entitled “Get Ready.” Many other dancers were awarded “Sapphire and Ultimate Diamond” awards throughout the weekend.

“I couldn’t be more proud of our students, teachers, and parents for preparing for a competition this early in the season,” said Ashlee Bourque, director of Shooting Stars School of Dance. “Our dancers have been extremely dedicated throughout the season,” said Ashlee.

Shooting Stars School of Dance recently celebrated their 10th anniversary of training and competing and recently expanded to a second location.
