Arts and Humanities
Over the years, our YMCA arts program has grown dramatically and today many of our YMCAs offer some arts programming. Whether an individual has an interest in literary, performing, or visual arts, the YMCA offers activities for children, youth, teens, adults and families to express themselves while building healthier spirits, minds and bodies.
To name a few, some of the programs include:
-
Art Classes
Children have so much fun participating in our Messy Arts and Painting Pals classes. Many of our children’s Sampler classes also have an art element. Please see our program brochure for specific descriptions and times.
-
Culinary Arts
Children get to try their hands at being culinary masters in our Cooking with Kids Sampler class! Download our program brochure or more information.
-
Dance Lessons
Over the past five years our Dance Program has grown significantly and now serves approximately 200 children ages 2 ½ to 12 years old. Classes range from beginner to advanced and lessons are offered in ballet, tap, jazz and hip-hop. Each year the children get to participate in the branch's annual recital held at the North Kingstown High School in June. For more information, contact the director of the program Tara Gast, tgast@gpymca.org, or download our program brochure . Classes are available to members and non-members for an additional price. Theater Opportunities
Our Annual Talent Show gives children the chance to perform their singing, dancing and acting skills. Performance is held at the North Kingstown High School with proceeds benefiting our Financial Assistance Campaign. Tryouts will be held two months in advance. Check our Calendar of Events for next year’s performance date!

Literary and Language Classes
