Camp Manitoo Overview
About Camp Manitoo
Camp Manitoo is an all inclusive, full day summer program that includes traditional camps and fun, modern specialty camps. Our summer program emphasis will be on meeting new friends, environmental challenges, aquatics activities, sports, and a positive recreational experience.
Camp Manitoo is a member of The American Camping Association (ACA)
Camp Manitoo is an accredited camp in accordance with the standards of the American Camping Association. ACA sets nationally recognized standards, which focus primarily on program quality and health and safety aspects of a camp’s operation. This means that the ratios of your camper to staff, the safety standards at the pool, the training and certification of all staff are all set at a standard met by only 25% of day and resident camps around the country. If you have any additional questions about the ACA accreditation process, please do not hesitate to speak to the Camp Director

The exciting camps offered at Camp Manitoo:
Splash ‘n’ Paddle Camp: (Ages 9-13)
This camp is two-weeks of water-based fun and learning, including kayaking. American Canoe Association-certified instructors, from Ocean State Adventures, in Bristol, will work with campers on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, developing and honing paddling skills in several different types of kayaks, while instilling a deep regard for safety and responsibility to other boaters and the environment. On our final day of camp, we’ll pack a picnic lunch and go off on a kayaking adventure on one of the many estuaries in our bio-diverse region. Tuesdays and Thursdays will be devoted to swimming activities, instruction and water games. Spaces are limited so register quickly to ensure there is a spot for your camper!
Theatre Camp: (Grades 2-6)
Calling all futre actors and actresses! Learn role playing, set design, theatre direction, improvisation, get imaginative with your costumes, make new friends and rejoin old ones. Campers will end each two week session with a production put on for all of Camp Manitoo to see. Swimming and other camp activities complete the campers experience.
Life Survival Skills Camp (Grades 2-6)
This two-week specialty camp will introduce campers to life skill activities that they may encounter in later life. These activities will include: orienteering (map reading), cooking skills, life-saving skills in & out of the water, fire safety & prevention, and building & constructing structures. Building & constructing will be taught by the experts from Home Depot. A final presentation of the skills learned to the entire camp will conclude this adventure.

Traditional Day Camps
This year our traditional day camp will be choice based. Each day campers will be able to choose activities from various options. These options include: Sports; Arts & Humanities; Nature; Recreational Games; as well as Archery for campers ages 6 & up. Campers will be able to choose to go to whichever options that they would like, as many times as they would like in a day. However, there will be some mandatory activities that they must attend each day:
Opening
Closing
Swim Lessons
Recreational Swim
Lunch
Camp-Wide clean-up Time
Other than these mandatory activities, campers are free to choose their own activities, based on their interests. When campers choose an activity, they will be escorted by an assigned counselor to and from that activity. At the Bayside Family YMCA, we believe that each child should have an enjoyable experience at camp. By making our traditional day options choice-based, we believe that children will feel empowered to make their own decisions and will be more apt to fully enjoy their day camping experience.Campers will still be broken up into age appropriate groups to ensure positive peer experiences. These age groups will be named after Indian tribes. The breakdown will look like this: All of our traditional day camps are full-day programs.
Pre- School Camp
(ages 3-5)
Your pre-school child will participate in daily camp activities, which will include a mandatory YMCA swim lesson, environmental interactions, arts & crafts, sports, & other age-specific activities that focus on the YMCA values. If your camper stays for the full day of camp, he/she will have the opportunity to cool off again with an afternoon recreational swim. This camp has a ½ day or a full day option available. Half-day camp runs from 8:30am – 12 noon, and full day camp continues on until 4:00pm. This option must be checked off appropriately, or billing will be for the full day.
