YMCA hosts celebration at Roger Williams Park this Friday.

PROVIDENCE, RI (September 28, 2009). This Friday, October 2, the YMCA of Greater Providence will host a local celebration of LIVESTRONG Day, as part of a national effort led by the Lance Armstrong Foundation to recognize cancer survivors.

Individuals and their family members will speak about their personal experiences recovering from cancer while organizers unfurl a yellow banner signed by YMCA members across the area showing their support.

The event will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Roger Williams Park Temple of Music. The public is invited to attend. Attendees are asked to wear yellow to show their support for LIVESTRONG.

LIVESTRONG Day is the Lance Armstrong Foundation’s one-day initiative to unite people affected by cancer in raising awareness of cancer issues on a global level and in communities across the country.

The YMCA of Greater Providence is a partner with the Lance Armstrong Foundation in creating LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, a health and wellness program designed specifically for cancer survivors. The program, launched at the Kent County Y in Warwick, is now considered a national model for successful post-treatment recovery.
