Cranston YMCA Undergoes Major Facelift

Construction project will enhance fitness center for members.

The Cranston YMCA is undergoing a major face lift to improve its fitness center to allow for more space and more equipment to accommodate members.

The existing space will be gutted and expanded over the next month and a new room for group exercise will be added.

“We are so excited to be offering our members a new and improved fitness center at the end of this construction project,” said branch executive director Adrienne Sturrup. “When we’re done, there will be more room, more equipment, and a better experience for everyone seeking to improve their health and well-being.”

The construction project has been organized to provide the least disruption to members’ fitness routines. The fitness center will remain open during construction through July. After that, a smaller space with limited equipment will be available until the project is completely. Plans are to open the new space by the end of August. The remaining parts of the Y including the pool, child care center, and gym will remain open throughout the project.

“In planning this project, we were very conscious of minimizing the impact on our members,” said Sturrup. “However, there will be a short time when the fitness center is closed and access to equipment is limited. We encourage members to use any one of the branches of the YMCA of Greater Providence during this time or try some new routines like swimming and group classes.”
