Member Spotlight

The Robert H. Goddard community award was presented to long time member, swim team volunteer and current board member Cindy Reed. This award recognizes people who have a history of active philanthropic support and involvement in the East Side Y. Cindy has been instrumental in our fund raising and board development efforts and a huge support to Paula in the last year as a new Executive Director.

Amanda Dail was recognized as Youth Volunteer of the Year for her involvement at the Mount Hope Child Care Center over the past few years. She has demonstrated a passion for working with children and truly exemplifies the YMCA’s values. She goes on to college this year and will be greatly missed.

Our Adult Volunteer of the Year, Peter Thornton, was a driving force behind the success of the Spin-A-thon in 2008 and again in 2009 and frequently jumps in to teach a class in the event of a staff emergency. He holds the current record for the most scans at the Y over the last month. You will find him here in the early am to participate in Ali’s Body Sculpt and Core conditioning classes, then back at night for a spin class. Christy says, "Some people just get it…and live it…and believe in what we do here and Peter is one of them."

Thank you Cindy, Amanda and Peter, from all the staff a the Y for all you do!
