Camp Ok-Wa-Nessett serves children daily through a variety of traditional, specialty and sports programs. Y camp leaders are committed to creating a strong sense of community, helping campers to challenge themselves, develop self-confidence, lasting friendships and FUN in a safe environment.

Kent County YMCA Camp Ok-W-Nessett has been accredited by the American Camp Association, the most recognized organization that monitors the quality of camping in the USA, for the last eight years. The accreditation process requires the camp to either meet or exceed over 300 standards in the area of health, safety, risk management, human resources, transportation, and in all program areas including aquatics. In addition, all camp staff participate in orientation and training prior to camp. This intensive training includes topics such as Child Abuse Prevention, Risk Management, Age Level Characteristics, Group Activities, Positive Conflict Resolution, First Aid, CPR and more.
Beautiful Outdoor Facility
Camp Ok-Wa-Nessett has 117 acres with hiking trails, high and low ropes course, two ponds, spraypark, sports field, two archery ranges, basketball, and tennis courts, playground equipment, covered pavilions for rainy days, skatepark and so much more!!
RI Department of Elderly Affairs
If you are a Rhode Islander age 60 and are the primary caregiver of a child, we can help you send that child to camp this summer. Through a grant from the RI Department of Elderly Affairs, the YMCA is able to offer camperships to enable youth to attend YMCA summer day camp and school vacation camp. Preschool Camps
Children Ages 3-Entering K
Ratio - 1:6
YMCA Pre-School camps help children to develop to their fullest potential by allowing them to learn through discovery and play. Our camps offer developmentally appropriate activities that help children develop physically, emotionally, intellectually and socially. Activities are designed to reinforce and encourage the YMCA values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. All campers must be 3 years old and potty trained by June 1, 2010.
Pioneer Camps
Entering 1st Grade
Ratio - 1:10
Pioneer Camps offer campers a traditional camp experience as well as help to prepare them for their upcoming transition to school. These are fun and exciting programs that offer lots of personal attention with emphasis on social skill development and personal growth.
School Age Camps
Entering Grades 2-6
Ratio - 1:13
These camp programs offer campers the opportunity to fully experience all that Camp Ok-Wa-Nessett has to offer! Archery, arts & crafts, games, recreational pond swimming and Okey Falls Spray Park are just some of the activities that campers can participate in.
Teen Camps
Entering Grades 7 & Up
Ratio - 1:13
Our Teen camps allow experienced campers to select and plan camp activities that are of interest to them. Activities include boating, ropes course, skate park, outdoor education, creative arts, recreational and team sports. Specialty programs promote team building, problem solving, skill development and personal growth.
Sports Camps
Grades 4-6
Ratio - 1:13
These camps are focused 1-week sessions where qualified coaches and instructors lead participants in progressive skill development. Sports camps run from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
Trailblazer Program
This is a specialized day-camp program for children in preschool through grade 8 who are identified through their IEP (Individual Educational Plan) as having social, emotional, physical, and educational needs. Trailblazer is a structured program that fulfills the requirements of extended school year services. The program is designed as an inclusionary model, in which all needs are met through typical camp participation.
